Michael Sulmeyer

What inspired you to study at DPIR?

Flexibility to research hard problems of domestic and international military policy

Can you tell us a little more about your research here?

My DPhil in Politics explored how civil-military relations shapes major procurement outcomes.

What are your favourite memories of Oxford and being part of DPIR?

Great seminars and great colleagues.

How important was your time in Oxford?

DPIR was my home for many years, and it provided wonderful intellectual resources to help my research.

What life lessons did you learn?

Just because a topic may not be popular in a particular discipline does not mean the topic is not worth researching.

What advice would you give to prospective DPIR students?

Avoid excessive focus or concern about methodology; find a topic and subject you are passionate about.  Graduate-level research is foremost about endurance, so you have to be committed to be able to see it through.
