Shifting Legal Visions analyses how some legal systems, which previously protected former officials accused of human rights violations, have become protectors of human rights. Ezequiel González-Ocantos argues the transformation was brought about by changes in the understanding of judges and prosecutors in a climate of greater awareness of international human rights.
The book has already received the American Political Science Association's C. Herman Pritchett Award on Law and Courts and the Donna Lee Van Cott Best Book Award from the Latin American Studies Association.
